What lies ahead in 2011?

Ahhhhhh.... once again, the holidays have come and gone in a flurry of food, fun, and family visits!  As much as we enjoy taking it all in, it's also nice to get back to our normal day-to-day life (whatever normal is).  We were blessed with health and happiness throughout 2010, and look forward to more of the same in 2011!

Unfortunately, one member of our family will be struggling with his health in the days ahead.  Just after Christmas, we learned that our beloved chocolate lab, Bud, has a large tumor growing on his liver.  We knew he wasn't feeling good, as he had completely stopped eating and began losing weight.  He will turn 12 years old in March, so it isn't like he has youth on his side.  :(   But he does have a mommy and daddy that care about him very much, and aren't ready to let him go!  Although we've decided against surgery or treatments, we did start him on prednisone and have researched the best diet recommendations for treating cancer canines.  After just one day, Bud was eating like crazy and acting like nothing ever happened!  He LOVES his new food!  And what dog wouldn't, with us preparing venison, carrots, and cottage cheese with flaxseed oil 3 times a day?!   Oh, the things a parent will do for their children - even the furry, four-legged ones!

We don't know how much longer Bud will be around - the vet told us it could be weeks to months.  It's hard for us to believe that right now, seeing how well he's doing, but we'll take each day as it comes and enjoy our time with him while we can!  As long as he is happy and comfortable, that's all that matters to us.  But a part of me does hope he's still here to meet his little (human) brother or sister, whenever he or she may find their way into our lives.  We are keeping our fingers crossed for good things to happen this year!

Happy New Year to all!!!
